Dialysis Care when staying in SGH

SGH provides dialysis (haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) for acutely ill patients who have advanced renal disease when they are admitted to our hospital.

The hospital care team will assess and arrange for the dialysis based on your medical condition. Priority will be given to those who are critically ill.

Arranging for dialysis

To order the treatment, we need the following information from your usual community dialysis centres:

  1. Dialysis prescription details

  2. Blood test results for infectious disease such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) screening

  3. Medication list

Depending on your medical condition, we may alter the frequency (more than once within 24 hours) and duration of your dialysis sessions while you are with us.

As priority is given to patients who are critically ill, the time of the dialysis sessions during your stay may vary from day to day, and may not be to your preference. In some instances, the dialysis may be conducted outside of regular hours which is between 8.00am and 6.00pm.

Charges

The charges for our inpatient dialysis will be different from those of the community dialysis centres and other hospitals in Singapore. Our multi-disciplinary specialist team provides care primarily to patients with complex needs, not routine dialysis.

The charges also vary by the type and the number of modalities provided. For examples slower mode of acute routine dialysis, haemo-diafiltration, blood purification therapies and continuous renal replacement therapies or rapid peritoneal exchanges in peritoneal dialysis therapy.

With government subsidy, medical services are made affordable to most.
