The Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Clinic specializes in the diagnosis and management of patients with interstitial lung disease – a heterogeneous group of non-cancer disorders that result from damage to lung parenchyma by varying patterns of inflammation and fibrosis.

Our comprehensive diagnostic workup includes targeted blood investigations, pulmonary function tests, 6 minute walk test, high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scans of the lungs, and bronchoscopic procedures e.g. bronchoalveolar lavage, conventional and transbronchial cryobiopsy. Our ILD physicians work closely with thoracic surgeons whom are easily accessible should surgical lung biopsy be deemed necessary.

Management is individualized and may include pharmacological treatment (including immunosuppressive and anti-fibrotic agents), pulmonary rehabilitation, oxygen prescription , and potential recruitment into international drug trials. Close collaboration with our rheumatology, pulmonary hypertension and lung transplant colleagues ensures seamless referrals if co-management is needed.

Our ILD nurse also provides counseling as well as psychosocial and emotional support. Access to Advance Care Planning and Palliative Services completes our integrated and holistic model of care delivery.
