The Department of Dermatology provides comprehensive outpatient and inpatient services for the diagnosis and management of patients with dermatologic problems.
The Department was started in 2002 to primarily meet the demands of inter-department inpatient referrals. The strength of our unit lies in hospital dermatology, where our doctors spend at least half their time in the wards attending to patients who have multiple medical problems in addition to the dermatological complaint.
Clinical Services
Our department's clinicians have one overarching goal: helping patients enjoy their everyday activities while minimizing or eliminating their symptoms. Referring clinicians also consult us to clarify challenging diagnoses.
Our specialist outpatient clinic (SOC) was first created to cater to discharged patients who required follow up. It was subsequently opened up to referrals from the Outram Polyclinic, Singhealth Polyclinics and General Practitioners. We provide a wide range of consultation and treatments for common skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, acne, psoriasis, urticaria, fungal, viral and bacterial skin infection, benign and malignant growths of the skin. Electrosurgery, skin biopsy, excision and carbon dioxide lasers are performed in either of our two procedure rooms. We have a narrow band UVB machine to treat psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and other skin diseases. Cryotherapy treatment is also available to treat viral warts, benign and malignant growths of the skin. For patients with allergic contact dermatitis, skin patch tests are available.
Apart from general clinics, there are sub-specialty clinics. Patients with immunobullous diseases and psoriasis who require long-term follow up and treatment with immunosuppressive drugs are followed up in Immunobullous Disease Clinic and Psoriasis Clinic. The Derm-Oncology Clinic see patients on chemotherapy who develop skin side effects. The Transplant Skin Clinic will screen potential solid organ recipients for skin diseases before transplant and educate them on skin care after transplant. Solid organ transplant recipients will have regular screening at the Transplant Skin Clinic for skin diseases that may arise from long-term immunosuppressive drugs.
