Clinical Pulmonology

Inpatient: Ward 45, Block 4 Level 5
Outpatient: Lung Centre (Clinic B), Block 3 Basement 1

Inpatient Services

The inpatient teams handle patients admitted for varied respiratory problems like exacerbations of airway diseases (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchiectasis), community and hospital acquired pneumonia, pleural effusions and lung cancer.

Inpatient Consult Service

The Inpatient Consult Service provides for inter-departmental referrals. Nearly a thousand inpatient consults are seen annually, mainly but not confined to lung cancer evaluation, preoperative evaluation/optimization, and pulmonary complications in immunocompromised hosts. Consults are also provided for airway burns and ventilator management.

Rapid Response (SMART Team)

The Department also oversees the running of the rapid response team (SMART Team; SGH MICU Acute Response Team) that attends to all patients in the Division of Medicine who may be quickly deteriorating. The SMART Team assists in the acute management of such patients and arranges for a higher level of care (Medical Intermediate Care Area or Intensive Care Unit) if required.

Outpatient Services

Lung Centre (Clinic B)

The Lung Centre (Clinic B) sees a large number of outpatient visits with pulmonary disorders daily on weekdays, including patients referred from neighboring countries.
