Patient Guide to Lutetium-177 PSMA Therapy

Synonym(s):

Lutetium-177 (177Lu) PSMA therapy is a targeted treatment for prostate cancer. This therapy uses radioactive Lutetium-177 attached to a molecule that specifically targets prostate cancer cells expressing PSMA (Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen). This allows the radiation to be delivered precisely to cancer cells while minimising effects on healthy tissue.

The treatment is administered through an infusion, during which your vital signs will be carefully monitored. Following the treatment, you may undergo Whole Body Scans to assess the efficacy of the therapy.

During Your Treatment

Treatment Day:

  • Vital signs monitoring throughout infusion
  • Whole-Body Scans after treatment
  • Special care instructions will be provided

Essential Care:

  • Drink at least 1 litre of fluid daily (unless advised otherwise)
  • Take all prescribed medications as directed

Safety Precautions

Personal Hygiene:

  • Maintain daily personal hygiene
  • Shower regularly
  • Wash hands thoroughly after toilet use
  • Clean any spills of bodily fluids immediately
  • Wash soiled linen separately from family laundry

For the First 2 Days:

  • Avoid crowded places
  • Sleep separately from adults
  • Avoid intimacy
  • Maintain arm's length distance from children under 12 and pregnant women
  • Sit while urinating (including men)
  • Double flush toilet after use

Travel Information

Over the next four weeks, you must carry your discharge note when travelling as you may trigger radiation detection devices at airports, public transportation facilities, and other security checkpoints due to low radiation levels. If you plan to travel overseas shortly after treatment, please request a travel memo from your doctor. You may return to work as soon as you feel well enough.
