Siew Mui was awarded the Superstar Award for Exemplar Professional (Administration) at the 2026 Singapore Health Quality Service Awards.
The Person Everyone Wants on Their Team
Siew Mui isn't just about getting her own work done efficiently. The course coordinator is the colleague everyone hopes to have—the one who actually says "yes" when you ask for help. Her philosophy is simple. "If someone reaches out, it usually means they need help. I will say ‘yes’ because every opportunity to help is also an opportunity for me to learn."
Siew Mui works at the Alice Lee Institute of Advanced Nursing at Singapore General Hospital, where she helps run courses and training programmes. Her job might not sound glamorous —she's the person making sure classrooms are ready, students are enrolled, and all the paperwork is sorted — but without her, these courses simply wouldn't happen.
Her day-to-day work involves coordinating wound management courses, health assessment training, and helping new nurses get started with their online learning modules. She also supports student nurses during their practical placements—basically making sure they have everything they need to focus on learning rather than worrying about administrative hiccups.
She also volunteers for the Mental Wellness committee, and helped run her department's booth at the annual SGH Charity Bazaar to raise funds.
Always Learning, Always Improving
What makes Siew Mui special isn't just that she solved one problem—it's that she's always looking for the next way to make things better. She regularly takes programming courses and keeps an eye out for new digital tools that could help her team work more effectively.
"I hope to keep innovating and growing professionally and in doing so, find new ways to support my department," she says.
When Technology Meets Determination
Every two weeks, she has to create a massive report of more than 30 data fields by manually checking 100 different online modules, and comparing numbers across multiple spreadsheets. For Siew Mui, this used to be a six-hour headache.
The game-changer came when Siew Mui's boss suggested she look into something called Robotic Process Automation, or RPA for short. Think of it as teaching a computer to do repetitive tasks automatically, like having a very reliable assistant who never gets tired or makes mistakes.
Instead of shrugging it off as "too technical," Siew Mui signed up for an in-house course to learn how RPA works. Then, in her own time, she figured out how to make it work for her specific job. With RPA, she can now get it done in just 30 minutes, with fewer errors to boot.
"I'm now able to provide more timely and accurate reports to nurses and their supervisors. My time has also been freed up for more strategic tasks," she explains.
For going above and beyond her role, Siew Mui has been awarded the Superstar Award for Exemplar Professional (Administration) at the 2026 Singapore Health Quality Service Awards. It's recognition for someone who cares enough to make work better for everyone else.
