Physiotherapy is a health care profession, which uses physical therapeutic means and exercises to ensure maximum recovery and early independence of clients. The treatment of the patient is usually prescribed to relief pain, restore normal function and strength, prevent further injury and promote healthy living and lifestyles.

The Department of Physiotherapy in Singapore General Hospital is the largest Physiotherapy department in Singapore, with over 180 physiotherapists, including therapists with specialist training, to support the wide-ranging medical specialties in the hospital. Our physiotherapists work with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers in SGH to provide holistic care that is aligned with our patients’ goals. Many senior staff have gone to acquire specialized skills through formal certification course, masters or PhD degrees.

There are many opportunities for professional development in the form of in-house continual education, clinical skills courses, and hospital-organized corporate programs. Apart from clinical work, employee can also branch into research, education and training. Fresh graduates begin with rotational postings to inpatient and outpatient areas to acquire adequate clinical experience, with the guidance of senior physiotherapists.
