Testimony

Mahatma Gandhi: "I shall pass though this world but once. Any good therefore that i can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."

Volunteers Recognition

We appreciate the volunteers services and would like to formally recognize their efforts. An annual appreciation party and periodic get-togethers are organised for the volunteers to meet and share information. This is to encourage camaraderie and bonding amongst volunteers. Our Volunteers also enjoy workshops/training and discounts at Retail Pharmacy.

“It was a fun painting with my children instead of staying in bed….we enjoyed ourselves these two days, ” said Mr Low who was joined by his wife and two children at the Arts workshop.

“Arts have a power to move, touch, inspire and bind people together emotionally,” shared Installation Artist, Ms Felicia Low, who has facilitated three art workshops with SGH patients.

“Patients are genuinely appreciative and thankful for our help during the Arts Concert events. Patients look forward to this concert at the end of each month. It has certainly made a difference to the patients, in terms of being entertained and have a purpose-filled stay at the hospital,” said Toh Shao Wei, Arts Concert Volunteer.

As a volunteer, I learnt how to talk to the elderly and approach them with less fear. I learnt to persuade them to watch the free performances. Besides, I have learnt how to operate the wheelchair and know some medical terms. The SGH Staff and other volunteers are friendly and that has helped me a lot throughout the sessions, said Lee Ling, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, 3rd year.

“Seeing a smile on the patients face after the event and seeing how the volunteers feel so satisfied after the event is the most satisfying stint as a Volunteer. For those who watch the concert, I feel that we have help to make their time in hospital a little more meaningful knowing that there are others thinking and caring about them. Patients will normally feel a little upset and lonely in a new environment, however, by organising the art concert, we help them feel that time passes a little faster and they tend to be more positive after a lively concert,” said Eva Kerk, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, 3rd year.

“Seeing how grateful the patients were when we just brought them out of their beds to watch the Arts concert and the hug that this Ah Ma had given me and the multiple 'thank you's she showered me with, always gives me the motivation to bring this joy to more patients,” said Angeline Tey Jie-Yin, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Year 2.
