Training Objectives/Goals

As part of the department of diagnostic radiology in SGH, our breast imaging centre sees the full spectrum of breast conditions, from breast screening, benign conditions, cancers to imaging of the high risk-women.

SGH Breast Imaging Fellowship Programme aims to provide comprehensive training in all aspects of breast imaging and breast interventional procedures. In addition, we also offer exposure to clinical research.

SGH has a high volume of breast imaging studies providing good exposure and hands-on advanced training by experienced breast radiologists. Upon completion of the fellowship, Fellows will be able to confidently interpret:

  • Screening and Diagnostic full field Digital Mammography
  • Digital Breast Tomosynthesis
  • Contrast Enhanced Mammography
  • Breast Ultrasound (with Elastography)
  • Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Breast MRI
  • Interventional Procedures (image-guided biopsies such as ultrasound-guided core and vacuum-assisted biopsies, stereotactic/tomosynthesis /MRI-guided vacuum biopsies and localisations).

Objectives

  1. Fellows will gain confidence as a specialised consultant breast radiologist in symptomatic workup, preoperative assessment in proven breast cancer patients and be able to advise which patients are amenable to breast conservation.
  2. Gain proficiency in high resolution MRI breast for screening (e.g. BRCA gene carriers), evaluation of implants and in patients with other types of augmentations, in preoperative assessment for breast conservation and monitoring of neoadjuvant therapy.
  3. Gain confidence in intervention procedures and also complex intervention procedures such as DBT guided vacuum assisted biopsy, and MRI-guided Breast biopsies. SGH is a major referral centre for MRI-guided breast biopsies.

Admission Criteria

  • Possess valid practicing license with the Singapore Medical Council

  • Satisfactory completion of a radiology residency programme (or equivalent)

  • Registered under the Register of Specialists with Specialists Accreditation Board (SAB) in Diagnostic Radiology

  • Letter of recommendation from applicant's HOD

  • Formal interview with hosting Department Faculty
