In the rapidly evolving landscape of medical technology and digital innovation, front-line healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, are well positioned to leverage and lead these advancements, optimizing patient care and transforming practice. In this talk, we discuss the importance of medical technology and digital innovation in reshaping healthcare delivery and how pharmacists can ride on this wave of digital revolution. We also introduce the Biodesign framework - a robust multi-disciplinary and systematic approach to identify important unmet healthcare needs, the development of novel technologies to address them and the subsequent development of business and commercialization plans to bring them into patient care. We will also discuss the challenges innovators face and practical tips for pharmacists on how to get started in their innovation journey.

After the lecture, the participants will be able to gain an understanding on:

  • The role of innovation in healthcare and hospital pharmacy
  • An overview of the Biodesign framework
  • Common challenges in the innovation process and tips to overcome them
