This session examines the crucial role of cognitive function for daily living. Participants will explore the prevalence of cognitive deficits following stroke and other chronic conditions, and how these impairments affect essential daily activities.
We will also discuss cognitive screening tools suitable for various settings, supporting healthcare providers from diverse backgrounds to participate in screening and identification of cognitive deficits. Case examples will showcase how some of these tools can be implemented within clinical practice to enhance patient safety and health outcomes. Participants will gain ideas and practical strategies for integrating cognitive assessment into routine care.
At the end of the lecture, the participants will be able to:
• Describe the prevalence of cognitive deficits in stroke and chronic disease populations.
• Discuss the importance of cognition in daily life, such as fall prevention, and managing medications and medical appointments.
• Identify cognitive screening tools for implementation in different clinical settings.
