Chronic musculoskeletal (MSK) pain remains one of the most complex and persistent challenges in physiotherapy and healthcare. It often continues despite structurally ‘healed’ tissues, prompting us to look beyond a purely biomedical lens. This session offers a space to explore evolving understandings of pain and how they can inform our assessment, communication, and rehabilitation strategies, while staying grounded in the clinical realities we face every day.
At the end of this talk, the participants will be able to gain an understanding on:
- Gain awareness of how chronic MSK pain differs from acute pain
- Be introduced to a biopsychosocial approach in persistent pain management
- Recognise the impact of language and communication on patient beliefs
- Be exposed to graded activity and graded exposure as part of active rehab
