CPD Lecture: I am here but I am not - Dying with neurological conditions

Synonym(s):

8 April 2026

Individuals with neurological conditions often have significant disability and complex needs that interfere with their quality-of-life. Illness trajectories vary with the neurological conditions, which are further complicated by communication and cognitive challenges, prognostic uncertainties, as well as unique psychosocial needs. These challenges will interfere with timely serious illness conversations as well as recognition of needs. Furthermore, the needs and demands of the individual and loved ones will change as the individual progress through the stages of their neurological disease. The current lecture aims to highlight the distinct needs of individuals with neurological conditions as well as their caregivers, and to support healthcare providers inaddressing these concerns.

At the end of this talk, the participants will be able to gain an understanding on:

  • Unique factors interfering with end-of-life care for individuals with neurological diseases.
  • Grief processes for individuals with neurological diseases and their loved ones.
  • The role of neuropalliative care for individuals with neurological diseases.
