Point of Care Ultrasound of the Shoulder For Physiotherapy Practice

Synonym(s):

7 December 2024

Shoulder disorders are common musculoskeletal injuries. The use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) enables
physiotherapists to pick up major abnormalities which are critical to patient management. In addition, it
provides patients with visual feedback for activating shoulder muscles which can improve therapy outcomes.

This course will provide participants an understanding of machine optimization and the basic knowledge and skills required to perform a focused assessment of the shoulder.  Through small group practical hands-on scanning, participants are given the opportunities to develop technical skills enabling them to integrate POCUS into their practice.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand basic ultrasound physics and knobology
  • Identify normal sonoanatomy of the shoulder
  • Recognize sonographic appearances of common pathologies of the shoulder
  • Acquire guided hands-on ultrasound scanning experience in small group sizes
