Challenges of Managing Elderly Patients with Parkinson’s Disease

This short course provides an overview of Parkinson's Disease (PD), differentiation between Parkinson's disease and Parkinsonism. Also review all the PD medications currently available in Singapore, discuss the indications for the medications, drug interactions and review strategies to manage Levodopa associated motor complications.

The course also discusses the impact of PD on the elderly, in terms of Geriatric syndromes and management of PD in a multidisciplinary manner.

This course aims to enable participants to: 

  • Understand the different drugs available for PD, in terms of indications, complications and adverse effects on the elderly
  • Review strategies in managing levodopa associated motor complications
  • Learn the geriatric syndromes and PD
  • Learn about non-pharmacological management of PD
