The Bobath concept is a problem solving rehabilitation approach used to restore functional movement in patients that have developed movement/postural dysfunctions following neurological injuries. It was originally developed by Dr Kartel and Mrs Berta Bobath in the 1950s, the Bobath concept remains one of the leading approaches in neurological rehabilitation worldwide, as it continues to evolve in line with current scientific findings.
The Bobath approach evaluates movement problems through the assessment of postural control, sensory-motor skills, selective movements, and movement patterns. facilitate more normal movement. It incorporates hands-on facilitation to enable the patient to move more efficiently and effectively and to incorporate these movement strategies into their daily activities to maximise recovery from neurological insults.
