Effective Visual Communication Techniques to Enhance Patient Communications

This full-day course is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to enhance their patient engagements through effective visual communication techniques. Through engaging, experiential exercises, attendees will learn about the benefits of creatively incorporating story-telling, pictures and diagrams to support effective communications in the adult population.
Join us and take the first step towards incorporating the transformative power of visual communications. Drawing and writing materials will be provided.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will be able to: 

  • Understand the benefits of basic visual communication techniques and how they can enhance patient conversations. 
  • Apply basic experiential knowledge in at least three effective visual communication techniques including: 
    • the use of story-telling, metaphors, and analogies to facilitate meaningful conversations with patients/caregivers 
    • using visual resources such as picture cards to assist in conversations with persons having difficulties in self-expression 
    • grounding and navigating conversations using simple diagrams 
  • Identify ways in which visual communication techniques can enhance patient care in attendee’s own setting.
