CA in ID Pharmacotherapy (Antimicrobial Stewardship Program) - Level 2

Application Timeline

For overseas applicants:

A full set of required documents to be submitted at least 6 months before the attachment start date.

For local applicants:

A full set of required documents to be submitted at least 3 months before the attachment start date.

2 weeks (duration can be customized to cater to individual learning needs)

Objectives

To enhance knowledge and clinical skills of experienced clinical pharmacists seeking to advance their practice in infectious diseases pharmacotherapy, specifically in the area of Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP).

Upon completion of the attachment, participant(s) should be able to: 

1. Fulfil training prerequisites as stated for Clinical Attachment in ID Pharmacotherapy (Antimicrobial Stewardship Program) – Level 1

2.  Participate effectively in activities to optimize anti-infective use consistent with departmental and organizational goals

3.  Evaluate the clinical significance of positive microbiological results, interpret the susceptibility panel and make appropriate drug selection in accordance with the patient profile 

4.  Critically evaluate antibiotic choice, dose, route and duration for specific infections and monitor for efficacy and toxicity of treatment using appropriate monitoring parameters at appropriate time intervals

5.  Design, or redesign, safe and effective patient-centred therapeutic regimens and monitoring plans (care plans) for infectious diseases patients

6.  Perform simple interventions such as IV to PO, narrowing of empirical antibiotics etc

7. Accurately summarize the advantages and disadvantages of each core and elective stewardship strategy and implement the most appropriate strategy for the institution

Outline

The training program is designed to provide relevant and quality training to experienced clinical pharmacists who are seeking to enhance their knowledge and clinical skills in the area of infectious diseases pharmacotherapy, specifically antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) with special emphasis in the following areas:

  • Pharmacokinetics (PK) and Pharmacodynamics (PD) principles of antimicrobials and their application
  • Pharmacotherapy management of common infectious disease conditions
  • Utility and limitations of laboratory diagnostics (infective biomarkers)
  • Basic skills in microbiology
  • Application of strategies to control antibiotic resistance
  • Application of various Antimicrobial Stewardship strategies, including but not limited to:
    • Prospective audit and feedback
    • Antimicrobial use surveillance
    • Use of IT tools e.g. Clinical Decision Support Systems
  • Communication Skills

Methodology

This is a predominantly coaching program, supplemented with facilitated readings and case/situational discussions. Main activities will include:

  • Participation in ward rounds
  • Prospective audit and feedback
  • Case presentation and discussion
  • Journal club presentation and discussion
  • Logbook discussion
  • HOD report

Attachment Fees

1. Training Fee (5-day work week) depending on the nature of attachment

At least SGD $600* per applicant per week


2. Administrative Fee Upon Acceptance (non-refundable)

Singaporeans: SGD $150* 

Non-Singaporeans & Overseas Applicants: SGD $240* 


3. Miscellaneous Fees for Overseas Applicants (Non-Singaporeans) [non-refundable]

a. Training Employment Pass (TEP)

  • One time application fee: SGD $105
  • Issuance Fee: SGD $225

b. Multiple Journey visa (if applicable): SGD $30
