Radiological Sciences

Radiological Sciences provides assistance and technical expertise, through research capabilities in the following areas:

1.    Artificial Intelligence Research and Deep Learning for Images:

  • Python de-deidentification script & Python facial de-identification script to ensure data confidentially.
  • Radiological labelling/annotating of research images, stored on an open source research PACS with XNAT.
  • Ground truth marking for supervised learning for AI.

2.    Advance Magnetic Resonance Imaging Research; Molecular Imaging Research

Techniques we are proficient in include the following (non-exhaustive):

  a) MRI-based

  • Dynamic Contrast Enhanced (DCE) MRI Perfusion Imaging for angiogenesis.
  • Diffusion Imaging (diffusion weighted; diffusion tensor; diffusion kurtosis) for tissue cellularity and fibrosis, and brain microstructual integrity.
  • Quantitative Susceptibility Imaging for iron loading neurodegeneration, hemorrhages and venous imaging.
  • Blood Oxygen Dependent Imaging (BOLD) for task based and resting state functional MRI brain activation.
  • Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer (CEST) - Amide Proton Transfer (APT) for mobile proteins to characterise cellularity in malignancies.
  • MR Spectroscopy for metabolic semi-quantification.
  • Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping, Resting State MRI, Myelin Water Imaging for evaluation of brain dysmyelination in neurodegeneration such as Parkinson's Disease, chemobrain and other neurological conditions.
  b) Radiotracer Imaging
  • Positron emission tomography (PET) scanning in animals and humans for presence of molecular targets.
  • Radiochemistry labeling of antibodies, proteins and small molecules to interrogate biology.

3.    Enabling Imaging-based Population Health & Health Services Research

  • Anchor and enable population health screening-related projects through the use of cost-effective radiological tools. (e.g lung cancer screening, breast cancer screening, brain volume screening)
4.    Assist with Randomised Controlled Trials for Medical Devices & 3D Printing
  • Trialing and development of medical devices.
  • Design and produce patient-specific 3D-printed anatomical models, surgical guides, appliances and implants for clinical care.

5.    Structuring Radiology Reports for Organised Data Collection

  • Provide tagged and structured radiology reports for data analytics.
  • Clinical data can be prospectively entered into PACs reporting fields.
  • This data can be sent from PACS to RIS, and subsequently from RIS to Sunrise and eHINTS.

6.    Assist with the Technical Aspects of Animal (Pre-clinical) Scanning at SingHealth Experimential Medicine Centre (SEMC) and A*STAR Institute of Bioengineering & Bioimaging (IBB)
