Singapore is gradually seeing an increasing number of hearing loss in the population. With more babies diagnosed with hearing loss through the newborn hearing screening and with an estimated 422,000 older adults in Singapore suffering from hearing loss (Academy of Medicine, 2017), this "invisible disability" is still often misunderstood.
This talk will tackle some of the most common myths about hearing loss and cochlear implants and discuss if technology has truly changed what it means to be deaf.
At the end of the talk, participants will be able to debunk the following myths:
