The Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine was established in 1995 on Outram campus from the historic Medical Unit III. We have been caring for Singaporeans with lung diseases and critical illness for more than two decades.

We provide the latest options in diagnosing and treating patients with allergy-related conditions, lung diseases and critical illness. We are a one-stop centre boasting a comprehensive range of sub-specialty services. These include:

Allergy
Airway Diseases
- Asthma, Bronchiectasis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Chronic Non-invasive Ventilation
Diagnostic Bronchoscopy
- Flexible bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, transbronchial lung biopsy (including cryobiopsy)
Interventional Pulmonology
- Leading referral centre for complex interventional pulmonology cases nationally and regionally
- Rigid bronchoscopy, airway ablative therapy, airway stenting, brachytherapy, intratumoral chemotherapeutic injection, endobronchial valve, whole lung lavage
- Thoracocentesis, intercostal drains, indwelling pleural catheters, pleuroscopy
Intensive Care Medicine
- First dedicated and intensivist-led Venovenous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Team in the country.
- One of two national centres offering VV ECMO for patients with acute respiratory distress disorder .
