For detection and quantitative measurement of BK virus in urine and blood samples of renal transplant and immunocompromised patients. As an adjunct for the diagnosis of BK virus associated nephropathy or haemorrhagic cystitis.
(a) Blood: Collect at least 5 mL blood in EDTA containers (2 full tubes of EDTA blood)
(b) Urine: Collect 2-10 mL of urine (first morning void) in sterile urine bottles
Refrigerate sample at 2-8°C if there is a delay in transportation to the laboratory. Do not freeze.
For clients outside SGH, send sample at 2 - 8°C. Plasma may be transported at 2-8°C or frozen at ≤-20°C. Sample must reach laboratory within 24 hours after collection.
