CEREBROSPINAL FLUID

Description

Indications

Examining cells present in the cerebrospinal fluid helps to diagnose and monitor various neurological and CNS disorders, as well as certain infection or neoplastic conditions.

Specimen Required

​A minimum of 1 mL of CSF should be collected; 2 to 3 mL preferred. 

​Collect specimen in Shandon Fixative supplied by the Cytology Laboratory. Send by hand to the Cytology Laboratory as soon as possible - See Special Instructions on Specimen Collection and Handling for details.
