Examining cells present in the cerebrospinal fluid helps to diagnose and monitor various neurological and CNS disorders, as well as certain infection or neoplastic conditions.
A minimum of 1 mL of CSF should be collected; 2 to 3 mL preferred.
Collect specimen in Shandon Fixative supplied by the Cytology Laboratory. Send by hand to the Cytology Laboratory as soon as possible - See Special Instructions on Specimen Collection and Handling for details.
