Introduction to General Movement Assessment and Early Intervention for Preterm Infants20 – 21 July 2022
This course will outline the principles of neurodevelopmental care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and its importance for neuroprotection and maximizing outcomes for both infants and families. The course will also provide an introduction to the General Movements Assessment (GMA) as an evidence based assessment tool for the early identification of infants at risk of neurodevelopmental disabilities. It will describe how the GMA is used with preterm/term infants in the NICU, and at 3-4 months of age in the community. The importance of early intervention for infants at risk of neurodevelopmental disabilities and the evidence base for early intervention will also be discussed.
