Creative Arts Therapies and Therapeutic Medical Play In Healthcare (Part 3)

Understanding the Therapeutic Significance of Play in the Hospital

29 October 2020

A visit or stay in the hospital can be a daunting and stress inducing experience for children and their families.  Processing information and making sense of procedures, medical equipment, medicine taking etc. can be overwhelming.  Child Life Therapy is an integral part of every child's hospital experience. Child Life Therapist advocates for the care and wellbeing of children and families through both child centred and family oriented support.  One of the primary focus of this profession is to help children and their families navigate through challenging hospital experiences while building resilience and enhancing coping capacities.

During this talk, participants will be introduced to:

  1. The work of Child Life Therapists
  2. The therapeutic strategies utilised during Child Life Therapy sessions
  3. A short case study mapping the medical journey of a patient

The presentation will end with a short Q&A session with the SingHealth Child Life Therapist from KK Women's and Children's Hospital.
