Introduction to Music Therapy

26 April 2023

Music therapy is a unique healthcare profession that utilizes music to assist individuals in addressing and improving their physical, communication, cognitive function and psycho-emotional needs. Although music therapy has been gradually gaining public awareness in healthcare over the years in Singapore, there is still much advocacy to be done to get it mainstream.

This presentation aims to provide an insight of what music therapy is, specifically in a hospital setting and as well as, to uncover the benefits of music therapy through various case studies.

At the end of this talk, the participants will be able to gain an understanding on:

  • what is music therapy
  • common music interventions
  • the supportive role of music therapy in a healthcare setting via a music therapy experiential activity
