One in three people above 65 years old is affected by disabling hearing loss. This lecture will provide an introduction to the topic of hearing loss; its causes, symptoms, and the impact of hearing loss on patients and their family members.
We will discuss some of the common hearing technology and assistive listening devices available today. We will also share useful communication strategies and tips for healthcare professionals when interacting with hearing-impaired patients. Lastly, we will also touch on when and where to refer these patients in the community and tertiary settings.
