Description

​Rubella Virus Culture

Indications

Specimen Required

​Throat swab, Nasopharyngeal swab, Nasopharyngeal aspirate, Nasopharyngeal wash. Send samples in Virus Transport Medium.

Urine in urine virus culture bottle.

6 mL EDTA blood.

6 mL uncoagulated cord blood or placenta tissue. Send samples in Virus Transport Medium.

1-2 mL amniotic fluid in plain sterile container (NB: detects intrauterine, but not necessarily fetal infection)

0.5-1 mL cerebrospinal fluid in plain sterile container.

Storage and Transport

​Refrigerate samples until transport to laboratory. Do not freeze.

Send samples on ice-packs to laboratory. Specimen should reach the laboratory as soon as possible after collection.
