PNEUMONIA MULTIPLEX PCR

Description

Indications

​For detection of Chlamydophila (formerly Chlamydia) pneumoniae DNA, Mycoplasma pneumoniae DNA, Legionella pneumophila DNA, Bordetella pertussis DNA and Bordetella parapertussis DNA which cause community-acquired atypical pneumonia.

Specimen Required

​(a) Sputum, nasopharyngeal aspirate or endo-tracheal tube aspirate: At least 1 mL of undiluted sample in a sterile leak-proof screw-capped container.

(b) Throat swab or tracheal swab: Use only Dacron-tipped swab. Send dry in sterile container or swab sheath.

Sputum is the preferred sample compared to throat swab.

Storage and Transport

​Refrigerate sample until transfer to laboratory. Do not freeze. Send sample at 2 - 8°C (with an ice-pack). Sample must reach the laboratory within 24 hours after collection.
