Education & Research

Education

The Pain Management Centre is accredited by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) Faculty of Pain Medicine to provide approved training for Pain Medicine.

We offer a limited number of one-year fellowship positions at the Pain Management Centre. Fellows will have exposure to inpatient and outpatient management of patients with acute, chronic cancer and non-cancer pain. Medical, psychological, and interventional treatment of various pain conditions will be incorporated into the training programme. Fellows will also learn different pain management interventional techniques with and without fluoroscopy. These will include basic procedures such as epidural steroid injections, facet blocks, sympathetic blocks, radiofrequency lesioning etc. to advanced techniques including spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pump and catheter insertion.

Educational activities at the Pain Management Centre include weekly presentations by invited speakers and fellows, journal club, case discussions, and multidisciplinary case conferences with other disciplines such as orthopaedic surgeons, psychiatrists, psychologists etc.

Research

Clinical research is part and parcel of a fellow's training at the Pain Management Centre. Our fellows are actively involved in various studies under the supervision of one of the consultants. These studies include both investigator-initiated protocols to multi-centre clinical trials sponsored by pharmaceutical companies.
