Remarks

In some patients with anti-NMDAR encephalitis, antibodies may be present in CSF when serum screens are negative. If there is a strong clinical suspicion of anti-NMDAR encephalitis, testing of CSF is recommended.

The presence of Anti-nuclear antibodies and/or non-specific cytoplasmic staining may obscure the detection of anti-NMDAR antibodies. If there is a strong clinical suspicion of anti-NMDAR encephalitis, testing of CSF is recommended.
