Dietary management includes individual consultation with the dietitian to better understand one's own current dietary habits. Patients are guided on how to lose weight by quantifying food and energy intake and are prescribed an individually tailored balanced diet plan. Realistic goals for weight loss/management are discussed and patients are given strategies on how to identify and overcome barriers to healthy eating.
Physiotherapists support the individual's weight management goals with safe and effective exercise sessions for a healthier lifestyle. A detailed fitness assessment is conducted by a physiotherapist to come up with an individually tailored exercise prescription. Physiotherapists also provide professional supervision during the exercise sessions to ensure correct technique and safety.
Psychologists help in maximizing success of the weight loss by guiding individuals to develop healthier eating behaviors, manage lifestyle changes and stress that might hinder one's weight loss efforts. They also help patients identify their motivation to change, leading to sustained improvements and improved quality of life. Psychologists are crucial in supporting patients who find it extremely difficult to adjust and cope with lifestyle changes that are needed for their weight loss.
Pharmacists review post-op patients with stable chronic medical conditions together with the endocrinologist and Advanced Practice Nurse. They can prescribe supplements and long-term medications for patients based on blood test results and health parameters. They educate patients on the usage and need for medications and supplements.
Nurses provide counselling peri-operatively for patients in clinics and in wards. They build rapport with patients and manage their care with the multi-disciplinary team to improve patients' long-term health outcomes.
Coordinators vet and manage new referrals to Obesity Centre. They also manage stable patients in coordinator clinics for weight management.
