During your stay in the Hospital, you will be attended to by a team of doctors comprising medical specialists, medical officers and house officers. You can identify our medical specialists by their black name tags.
Depending on your medical condition, your doctor may refer you to other Healthcare Professionals such as Dietitians, Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists to provide assessment and appropriate treatment / management to aid in your recovery. Some of these treatments and services are chargeable and will be included in your bill. You may clarify any concerns with the Healthcare Professional attending to you.
By coming to the Hospital, you are deemed to have given tacit agreement to general treatment which may be required for your condition. Certain procedures, such as surgery and the administration of anaesthesia, would require your specific consent in writing.
Before you sign a consent form, your doctor will explain to you the nature of the procedure and ensure that you have a full understanding of what is involved.
Your medical records and information on your medical condition are confidential. We will only share this information with you and your next-of-kin. Should your immediate family members wish to know more about your condition, they can approach the Nurse Case Coordinator to arrange for a convenient time to meet the doctor. As it is not possible for our doctor to update all your family members who may visit you at different times, we request that you appoint one member to liaise with the doctor.
SGH provides training for caregivers, including relatives and maids. Qualified trainers will provide information on how to assist you to bathe, feed, change positions in bed, transfer from bed to chair or vice versa. The training sessions are conducted over two evenings from 5.00pm to 7.00pm, on Thursday and Friday, except on public holidays. It is necessary for caregivers to attend the training on both days to complete the course. The training is provided free-of-charge but registration is necessary. For more details, please check with the Nurse Case Coordinator in-charge of you.
As your safety and wellbeing is our utmost concern, we advise that you remain within the Hospital premises until you are discharged by your doctor. If you have to leave the ward for any reason, please inform the nurse-in-charge.
Patients who request to be discharged against doctors' advice will be required to sign an AOR (At Own Risk) form.
