Radiological Sciences Academic Clinical Programme

The Radiological Sciences Academic Clinical Programme (RADSC ACP) in the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre brings together the fields of Diagnostic Radiology, Interventional Radiology and Nuclear Medicine to advance the way we see inside of and treat the human body.

RADSC ACP has set up the Tan Kim Ping Academic Fund to advance research and education initiatives in Radiology.

Our Signature Programme

Translational Imaging Programme (TIP)

New scientific discoveries are made in the laboratory every day. This Programme allows us to develop imaging techniques to evaluate these discoveries for translation to medical therapies. In addition, we aim to study the effectiveness of new treatments through imaging. As the incidence of cancer is on the rise in Singapore, this is particularly important in the field of Oncology.

At the end of August 2016, I was diagnosed with liver cancer. I couldn’t believe it, life was good, I had a 6-month-old baby, how could this be happening to me? I thought there was no hope, but I knew I had to keep fighting. The Radiological Sciences team didn’t give up on me. Dr Apoorva from Interventional Radiology worked tirelessly to find new solutions for me. Two years on, my liver tumours have gone. It is thanks to advancements in treatment and the medical team that I am able to be here today.

Interventional Radiology Clinical Trials Programme (IRCTP)

In Singapore, we have an increasing incidence of diabetes and its complications such as renal diseases. Interventional Radiologists perform image-guided minimally invasive procedures to diagnose or treat diseases, including providing renal dialysis access as well as many other treatments.
The Interventional Radiology Clinical Trials Programme (IRCTP) facilitates Interventional Radiology studies, fosters multi-disciplinary research and develops innovative yet cost-effective treatments. These include treatments for lower limb ischaemia, renal dialysis issues and targeted tumour therapies.

Tan Kim Ping Academic Fund

Dr Tan Kim Ping played a pivotal role in shaping the Radiological Sciences in Singapore. Throughout his career which spanned over four decades, Dr Tan has been recognised for his leadership skills, first as Head of the Department (HOD) of Diagnostic Radiology at Toa Payoh Hospital, and later at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. In 1991, Dr Tan was appointed HOD of Diagnostic Radiology at SGH.

Dr Tan foresaw that imaging would be increasingly important in the accurate diagnosis and management of diseases. He took the lead to restructure Radiology and made Radiology services available 24/7, so that patients would have timely imaging and prompt diagnoses. Dr Tan laid the foundation of a strong academic Radiology service by encouraging research and education among Radiologists. In the spirit of honouring Dr Tan Kim Ping’s vision, dedication and leadership, RADSC ACP has named this academic fund after him.

Aims of the Tan Kim Ping Academic Fund:
  • Lead advances in imaging and image-guided minimally invasive treatments;
  • Promote research among clinician researchers, leading to newer and better clinical care; and
  • Prepare tomorrow’s Radiological Sciences healthcare leaders through scholarship support, educational programmes and mentorship initiatives.
