Title: Food rewards vs drug rewards: What are the determinants of addiction liability?
Abstract:
Addiction appears in a substantial fraction of users with prolonged drug use (e.g., cocaine = artificial reward), while the liability of natural rewards (e.g., palatable food) seems low. Natural rewards & drugs have been proven to access the mesolimbic dopamine system. We monitor dopamine concentrations increase in the Nucleus Accumbens (NAc) when ingesting food & upon drug injection.
