Prof Wong completed medical school at the National University of Singapore (NUS) as a President’s Scholar. He obtained a PhD from the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. He received his clinical training in ophthalmology at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), with further fellowship training at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA and Westmead Hospital, University of Sydney, Australia.
As Medical Director of SNEC, Prof Wong helms one of the largest tertiary eye hospital in Asia. He was previously Executive Director of the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI). Prior to his current appointments, Prof Wong was Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, NUS and Chief of Ophthalmology at NUH, and Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Melbourne.
He is the current President of the College of Ophthalmologists in Singapore. He is a Board member of the National Medical Research Council (NMRC), and Council member of the Academy of Medicine Singapore, the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology and the Singapore Medical Council. He is a Fellow of the Singapore National Academy of Sciences, one of two physicians on the Academy.
