Sven Pettersson, MD, PhD is a Professor of Metabolic Disease in Lee Kong Chain School of Medicine, NTU. He is also Deputy Director within SCELSE at NTU in the area of functional genomics/microbiome.host interactions. During his postdoc training in MS Neubergers laboratory, at LMB, MRC, in Cambridge, UK (1987-1990), he worked on transcription regulation of immunoglobulin genes in B lymphocytes. He returned to Sweden and Karolinska InstituteIn 1991 and during this period he gradually move his research interest towards mechanisms underlying the communication between microbes and the host. He was appointed on a strategic chair in the field of host-microbe interactions as full professor in 2000. In 2010, he established the first GF facility in Singapore in 2011 and opened a laboratory at NCC, SGH. In 2014 he was appointed as Professor in Metabolic diseases at the LKC School of Medicine. His current research aims to understand how the gut microbes influence host physiology with a strong focus on the gut brain axis. His work on microbe – host interactions on the gut brain axis has been highly recognized worldwide and for this work he has received several prices and awards. Since 2015 he is also a senior investigator of CIFAR- Canadian Institute of Advanced Research.
