Joanna Phone Ko is an Advanced Practice Nurse trained in Acute Care. Her main roles are that of managing critically ill patients in the MICU, leading the SMART (SGH Medical Acute Response Team), and participating in multidisciplinary rounds for patients with a tracheostomy.


Joanna’s role in acute care allows her to collaborate and network extensively with other healthcare professionals such as Physicians, Physiotherapists, Respiratory Therapist and Speech Therapists etc. Inter-professional collaboration is an integral aspect of patient care in the MICU.


She also plays an active role in the Office of Medical Humanities, helping to foster an appreciation of the science and art of medicine in fellow colleagues.

Joanna has a keen interest particularly in the development of Nurse-Physician collaboration and has embarked on Quality Improvement initiatives to enhance this collaboration in the MICU.
