 MusicFest@SGH Campus is back!

The 5th edition of MusicFest@SGH is back! The event has attracted over 250 volunteer musicians to bring music to every corner of the Campus. Besides the wards, the musicians will be performing outside the Specialist Outpatient Clinics at Block 3 and common walkways, Healing Garden at Bowyer Block, and the Singapore National Eye Centre.  MusicFest@SGH Campus is presented by Novartis and jointly organised by SGH and Sing’theatre.

The event will round off with a finale featuring music by Singaporean composers hosted by well-loved theatre and television personality Hossan Leong, together with director and host, Suhaimi Yusof. Lauren Yeo will belt Xinyao songs from Singaporean composer, Liang Wern Fook and the SGH Campus staff choir will take the stage one more time for locally composed songs such as Fried Rice Paradise by Dick Lee.

MusicFest@SGH Campus will take place on 26 May 2017 from 10.30am to 8pm. All are welcome to attend the performances which are held in public spaces, including the concert finale at 7pm at Deck on 9, SGH Block 6 Level 9.

Performing Artist at MusicFest

Lauren Yeo
is a 14-year-old who started her singing journey at the age of 7 by singing and playing the violin for the elderly and underprivileged at old folks’ homes and market places. At 9, she was the youngest performer ever to hold a sell-out solo recital at Esplanade, donating the profits to Operation Smile Singapore. She was also the first Singaporean to win the inaugural American Protégé International Voice competition in 2012.

Since then, she has performed in various prestigious venues in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Wales and Carnegie Hall in New York, and continues to be a regular performer in many charity events. This November, Lauren will be the soloist at the charity concert with Singapore Chinese Orchestra, raising funds for SPD, a charity for people with disabilities.


Suhaimi Yusof

With 21 years’ experience in the media industry spanning radio and TV, Suhaimi is a household name both in the Malay and mainstream channels in Singapore. Suhaimi is no stranger to fans of the local entertainment scene. He started as a Radio Broadcaster in 1990 with WARNA 94.2FM. This versatile and effectively bilingual personality is much sought after when it comes to hosting corporate events. He has also comperes numerous events from Ministerial level to family days, apart from his 20 minute standup comedy routine for private functions. He has been consecutive 4 years as one of the hosts for the Singapore National Day Parade. He has performed in hundreds of programmes on the Singapore Malay Suria Channel. Many programs have also seen him co-hosting and acted with Malaysian & Indonesian celebrities. Suhaimi spreads his creativity behind the camera as director, writer and producer for his numerous VCD / DVD productions. For this, he has also received “The Best 100% Singapore Production” award from Life Records (Singapore & Malaysia).


Hossan Leong

Hossan Leong, Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, is one of Singapore’s most loved and recognised actors. Affectionately known as the ‘Singapore Boy’, Hossan continues to delight audiences on stage and on screen.

A consummate performer who can sing, dance, act and play the piano, Hossan is one of Singapore’s most highly sought after hosts and entertainers for corporate events and dinners.

Theatre credits include: The Importance of Being Earnest, The Magic Fundoshi, Off Centre, The Full Monty, The Rocky Horror Show.
Directing credits include: Company, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, The Flower Drum Song
TV credits include: We Are Singaporeans, Squirks, Under One Roof

As co-founder of the Paul Carr Consultancy Pte Ltd – a Media Training Company and Double Confirm Productions Pte Ltd – an Arts & Entertainment Consultancy, Hossan also offers motivational talks and corporate training worldwide to executives, as well as drama and presentation techniques. 
Double Confirm’s creative and corporate training services have expanded into Malaysia with the incorporation of Double Confirm Arts & Media Sdn Bhd.  (176 words)

Daphne Khoo
Daphne’s love for music and singing started at just 3 years old when she learned to play the piano and violin.
In 2004, she joined S’pore Idol and came in 3rd runner up. Since then she has appeared in numerous music festivals, television events and concerts.

“Desperate”- Daphne’s debut solo album was released late 2007, she co-produced and co-directed the album and wrote 10 of the 11 songs.

The album scored Daphne Best Breakout Solo Artist at Power 98’s Singapore Music Awards in 2008.  After being invited to perform at Singapore’s Mosaic Music Festival in 2008, Daphne left for Melbourne where she went on to finish her degree. Hitting up the radio waves of Tripple R, her Media degree left her itching for a greater knowledge of music and she applied and got into Berklee College of Music in Boston.

After a year at Berklee, Daphne was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer and moved to New York for her chemotherapy.

Since the completion of her chemo late 2012, Daphne has released two singles: 'Carry On', which charted #4 on the International Charts on Singapore's 98.7fm as well as 'Rooftops' in 2013.
Her latest EP ‘Wonderland’ was released in January 2014 and was released hand in hand with her Starbucks tour, which saw her through 19 shows all across Singapore.

Most recently, Daphne’s composition ‘Greatest’ has been handpicked as one of the theme songs for the SEA Games 2015, which was held in Singapore. (246 words)
