Be Vigilant: Protect Yourself from Fake Ads and Healthcare Scams

Scammers and fraudsters continually devise new tactics to deceive patients and consumers into revealing their personal information. By staying informed about these deceptive methods, you can better protect yourself from falling victim to healthcare scams.

How do I protect myself against health scams?

Constant vigilance is key against safeguarding yourself against scams. Use these 6 essential strategies:

  1. Verify information: Double-check unusual healthcare-related requests or information using official contact details from your provider's website or your records
  2. Screen unsolicited contacts: Exercise caution with unexpected calls, emails, or messages claiming to be from medical providers, especially those requesting personal information or immediate action
  3. Guard personal information: Never share personal or private information such as health records and bank account information over the phone or online. Only share personal or health information when you've initiated contact and confirmed the recipient's identity
  4. Spot scam signals: Be wary of common scam tactics, including urgent payment demands, legal threats, and offers that seem too good to be true
  5. Report suspicious ctivities: Alert your healthcare provider and relevant authorities if you suspect a scam attempt. Your report can protect others and aid in tracking scammers
  6. Stay informed: Keep abreast of scam alerts and warnings issued through your healthcare provider's official channels. Singapore General Hospital documents recent scams on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Check these regularly for updates:
