Preparing for Breast Imaging

Things to note on day of appointment:

When to arrive

Please arrive 20 minutes before your appointment.

Clothing

Please wear loose, comfortable clothes. You will have the option to change into a gown if you wish to. For mammogram examination, it will be more convenient and comfortable to wear a two-piece outfit.

Valuables

We suggest you leave your valuables at home so you don’t have to worry about them. You can keep your things with you during your exam.

Medical leave

Please note that no medical leave will be issued on the day of exam. An excuse chit can be given upon request.

How to prepare for a Breast Imaging Examination

Mammography / Ultrasound Breast

  • Fasting is not required.
  • Do not use any powder, perfume or deodorant on your breasts or armpits.
  • Women whose breasts are tender before their period may find it more comfortable to have a mammogram done just after the period.
  • Do bring along your previous mammogram / breast ultrasound films (if any)
  • Please inform the radiographer if there is a possibility that you may be pregnant.

MRI Breast

Breast Biopsy

  • Preparation instructions will be provided by Radiology staff at the point of appointment.
