The Department of Neurology works closely with the Department of Neurosurgery to care for all patients with neurologic diseases. The range of care provided is organised into a number of patient centred programmes as well as several units which provide specialised Clinical Neuroscience services :

 
Epilepsy Programme 
  • Optimisation of medical therapy
  • Evaluation of patients for epilepsy surgery 
Stroke Programme 
  • Providing comprehensive care for patients with stroke and transient ischemic attack from acute stage to rehabilitation, including risk factor evaluation
  • Active research on risk factor therapies for stroke 
Neuromuscular Programme 
  • Evaluation and treatment of nerve, neuro-muscular junction and muscle diseases
  • Comprehensive neurophysiological support services
Sleep Disorders Programme 
  • Comprehensive overnight, continuous sleep monitoring. Assessment facilities are used for patients with excessive daytime sleepiness, insomnia and abnormal behaviour during sleep, including snoring. 
  • A multi-disciplinary approach to sleep disorders with one-stop assessment for sleep-related breathing disorders
Neuro-Oncology Programme 
  • Provides services for patients with primary nervous systems tumors 
  • Consultative service for patients with neurologic complications of systemic malignancies
Neurodegenerative Diseases Programme 
  • Providing comprehensive management of patients with neurodegenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease) including neuropsychology, neuroimaging, neurochemistry, cell biology and neurogenetics. 
Headache Programme
  • Provides a comprehensive service for the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of headache patients
  • A Headache Programme consisting of a multi-disciplinary, multi-modality approach to the inpatient and outpatient treatment of headache patients
  • To undertake research into new treatment modalities and causes for various forms of headache
Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorder Programme
  • Provides medical and surgical (Pallidotomy, Deep Brain Stimulation) treatment for Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders
  • Provides botulinum toxin treatment for various movement disorders (dystonia, tremor, etc).
Neuro-rehabilitation Unit 
  • Provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient neuro-rehabilitation facilities for neurologically disabled patients.
Neurodiagnostic Unit
  • Conducts electroencephalography, nerve conduction, electromyography, evoked potential responses, magnetic stimulation, carotid duplex ultrasound and transcranial doppler studies for diagnostic and research purposes
Neuropsychology Unit
  • Provides neuropsychological assessment, follow-up and intervention for patients with dementia, head injuries or other brain disorders.
Clinical Trials Unit
  • Provides support and expertise for the conduct of trials to GCP standards.
Support Groups
  • Patient Support Groups for Parkinson’s disease, Epilepsy and Stroke.
