This service includes inpatient and outpatient services. The department handles an average of 120 inpatients with varied respiratory problems daily like lung cancer, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, community acquired pneumonia.
The Inpatient Consultation Service provides for referrals from other departments. Nearly a thousand inpatient consults per year are seen, mainly but not confined to lung cancer evaluation, preoperative evaluation and pulmonary complications in immunocompromised hosts. Consults are also provided for airway burns and ventilator management.
The daily Chest Clinic sees a large number of outpatients with pulmonary disorders including patients referred from neighbouring countries. Outpatient Thoracocentesis and Fine Needle Aspiration of cervical lymphadenopathy are performed routinely.
