Our Senior Nurse Manager, Ms Chong Lai Ling, Ward 72, Department of Haematology is one of the recipients of this year's President's Award for Nurses. The presentation ceremony at The Istana was held on Friday, 29 July 2011.
Lai Ling is known among colleagues as an outstanding oncology-trained nurse. As a leader of the Haematology support group, she goes beyond the call of duty to provide support and assistance to patients and nurses who are under her care and guidance.
She helped to develop processes and guidelines for the care of patients from a nursing perspective in various workgroups, e.g. the Clinical Practice Guidelines Workgroup on Clinical Blood Transfusions, the SGH Transplant Workgroup and the Peptide Receptor Radioisotope Therapy workgroup.
She is a mentor to many nurse leaders and nurses, coaching, inspiring excellence in patient care and professional development. She is an example of volunteerism among nurses and has been chair of the Outram Nurse Volunteer Group since 2008.
