On 13 May 2011, Dr Chan Yew Meng, Senior Consultant, Dept of Otolaryngology, has been conferred the PS21 Star Service Award. The award from the Public Service recognises and rewards public officers who have consistently demonstrated high standards of service excellence.
An extremely caring physician, Dr Chan maintains his own database of patients’ records in order to provide immediate and efficient advice to his patients without delay when they call him.
“Having my own system means I do not have to wait for the hospital attendant to trace the file from the Medical Record office,” said Dr Chan.
How does he manage his patients’ calls?
“It’s about multi-tasking. I set aside time from 1pm to 2 pm to entertain patients’ phone calls, reply to their emails and have my lunch.”
Mdm Ng Gek Eng (SGH Inspirational Patient, SingHealth Inspirational Patient Award Winner 2011) won the PS21 Star Customer Award 2011. The Award recognises members of the public who contributed significantly to a positive outcome in public service delivery. These award winners are role models that highlight the importance of partnership between public agencies and their customers, and how customers also play an important role in driving service excellence in the Public Service.
