MR THOMAS Lim’s experience (“Glacial pace: Such service standards are unacceptable at Singapore’s most established hospital”; Monday) needs to be put into perspective.
As a patient who has been cared for by the Singapore General Hospital’s (SGH) Ear, Nose and Throat Centre since 2006, I would like to share my experiences.
The reception area of the centre is generally very busy on any given day, and my experience is not much different from Mr Lim’s. The average waiting time for registration is anything from 10 to 30 minutes.
The front-line nurses have been consistently patient and competent, but some patients are rude and impatient.
Mr Lim also mentioned the “glacial” pace at which the doctor attended to patients. One has to consider that there are patients who have different illnesses, which require careful diagnoses.
