Asia’s first combined heart and liver transplant
The Outram Campus saw yet another landmark transplantation when a multi-disciplinary team from the National Heart Centre (NHC) Singapore’s Heart/Lung Transplant Unit and Singapore General Hospital’s (SGH) Liver Transplant Service successfully performed the first-ever combined heart and liver transplant in Asia, two weeks ago.

SGH launches largest hospital-based hyperbaric facility
Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean officiated at the opening of the Hyperbaric and Diving Medicine Centre at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) yesterday.

The Hyperbaric and Diving Medicine Centre can treat patients with problematic wounds or burns, and even the critically ill such as those with carbon monoxide poisoning or serious infections who can be wheeled into the hyperbaric chamber and continue receiving intensive care at the same time. The $3.5milion, 380 sq m new Centre is the only hospital-based centre here fully equipped to treat critically ill patients with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Its 41-foot-long, 40-tonne hyperbaric chamber is the largest here and can treat up to 14 patients at one time.
