Cancer Screening Services Gynaecological cancers are common cancers which account for almost 20% of all cancers in women. Screening for these cancers is an important activity at the O&G Centre.
- Women's Health Screening
This programme is specially designed to screen for gynaecological cancers. It includes a detailed consultation to assess the known risk factors and test, including Pap smear, pelvic ultrasound scan and blood tumour marker assessments.
- Colposcopy Clinic
A specialised examination with a binocular microscope to assess the cervix when a woman has an abnormal Pap smear, or when the cervix appears suspicious of having a cancer on clinical examination. Colposcopy can detect infection by human papillonavirus (HPV), pre-cancer, and cancer of the cervix, vagina and external genitals (vulva).
- LEEP Treatment
This is a treatment with Loop Electro-Excision Procedure to remove a pre-cancer on the cervix in the prevention of cancer development. It is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthetic. This procedure has emerged as one of the most cost-effective way of treating cervical pre-cancers in the prevention of cervical cancer.
- Hysteroscopy Clinic
This is an outpatient investigation of the uterus by direct visualisation of the uterine cavity with a fine instrument. It allows the detection of uterine growth, cancer and non-cancerous types, as well as any infection, with the use of general anaesthesia. It is a precise and rapid procedure and allows women to be treated without a "D&C" operation.
- Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Comprehensive investigations and diagnosis of gynaecological cancers. Arrangement of appropriate treatment, e.g. major surgery for gynaecological cancers. | |
