Chronic haemodialysis facilities are available for inpatients and outpatients with chronic or acute on chronic renal failure requiring dialysis treatment either on a permanent or temporary basis while awaiting recovery or transfer to other modalities. Some may be awaiting renal transplantation. The centre also caters to patients with special needs such as heparin free dialysis and dialysis with sodium modelling.
The Dialysis Centre also provides acute intermittent haemodialysis (iHD) and slow extended dialysis (SLED) for the critically ill in the Intensive Care Units. Other modalities such as slow continuous ultrafiltration (SCUF) and isolated ultrafiltration, CRRT and charcoal haemoperfusion are also available to ICU patients. In addition, albumin liver dialysis using the Molecular Adsorbent Recirculating System (MARS) can be instituted in critically ill patients with severe acute liver failure.
