Dr John Thomas was trained at the National Neuroscience Institute and underwent advanced training at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford, UK. He is currently the Director of the Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery programme at the NNI. His subspecialty interests lies in movement disorder surgery (Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's disease, Dystonia, Tremor), Microvascular Decompression for Hemifacial Spasm, Trigeminal Neuralgia and Radiosurgery/Stereotactic Radiosurgery (Gammaknife, Novalis). He is also a member of the Vascular Neurosurgery and Skull Base Surgery programmes in the NNI. He is a Visiting Consultant Neurosurgeon to the National Cancer Centre (Neuro-Oncology) and the Singapore National Eye Centre (Skull Base Surgery).

Dr Thomas is the current vice-president of the Clinical Neuroscience Society and an elected committee member of the Chapter of Neurosurgeons.
